Official Announcement: Steel for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge Arrived
Texas’ newest citizen arrived quietly on Saturday, but will soon grace Dallas’ skyline as the suspense builds.
The first big shipment of steel for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge—a Santiago Calatrava suspension bridge—arrived on Saturday, July 25 in Dallas’ Trinity River Corridor. Two trucks and a few dozen
construction workers helped to unload the massive steel for the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, currently
under construction. This project is a collaborative effort by the City of Dallas, Texas Department of
Transportation, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Williams Bros., and J. D. Abrams Inc.
Cranes lifted the cylinders of steel—each weighing 100,000 pounds and spanning 36 feet—and
placed the soon-to-be arches off the Continental Bridge and into the corridor. This gleaming white
steel will be used for the central arch of the world-class bridge, which will reach 380-feet high upon
completion. Other elements include a 1,200-foot long signature bridge span with more than five
miles of cable.
